Brooch or hair grip, I’m not sure! This one started off as a little dreadlock that should have gone on the starburst dreads brooch…
…but somehow managed to get itself lost. I needle felted a scrap of mohair wool around it,
then stitched it up into a spiral and beaded it.
Rather like raspberry ripple.
The Traditional English Canal Embroidery that I blogged about here has gone from this:
to this:
I’m not sure now that I want to use the same variegated perle in all the squares.
But what colour to use?
Any ideas?
Love the combination of matte hairy felt with the hard shiny beads π
Love that raspberry ripple!
I think I agree that another colour might be better in the other squares, but I don’t know what to suggest – except what I usually do, which is pick out candidates, put them into place and then stare at them on and off for a few days!
wow that spiral is so stunning, the beads are so pretty π
I love the spiral and what you have done in the centre of the squares. Maybe looking back at some images from canal embroidery will help you to decide on a colour.
Love this! What about matching some unvariegated thread – and using those solids here and there – especially the lighter shades? Or find a variegated thread featuring the lighter blue patches?
My goto choices when nothing jumps at me are Caron’s cranberry. I also love their black cherry. It goes so well with Week’s Dye Works peonies, my very favorite overdye color of all! Good luck, but I know your eye is spot on and whatever you choose will be great!
Lovely raspberry ripple! I love the addition of the mohair. The canal embroidery is great, too. I’d use a blue variegated thread to pick up the inside of the stitching & the squares, of course, then go back to the pink later.
Just letting you know that Ive nominated you for the Liebster award, there are full details on my post π
Do you have fill in all the squares? I quite like the checquerboard
Actually, I do too. But to be faithful to the historical side of the embroidery it should be all filled in. Also, it’s supposed to be a coin purse and I suspect the difference in the weights of the stitched and unstitched fabric might make it go a bit funny.
You can tell I know nowt about canal work – not my period. I
T must be smaller than it looks on my monitor if it’s to be change purse. I love the texture, it looks like whelks
Come to think of it probably meant limpets rather than whelks. Marine biology is also not my thing
How about the colour of the light fabric squares? I love the variegated thread. It looks so different to my single coloured stitches. I must finish mine off.
