The next block of my this year’s holiday journal is complete. It was inspired by the beautiful Elizabethan manor house of Trerice, near Newquay.
And one of the long flower borders that I admired.
It was also a good excuse to dip into some of the brighter coloured silks I had brought with me rather than staying with the elegant shades of the real border.
This is as it came off holiday…
…this is as you last saw it, I think …
…and this is the finished block.
To the running stitch zig-zags of the grassy centre I added lazy daisy flowers in (mostly) variegated silk threads to tone with the underlying fabric and on the green sections little leaves created by layering two lazy daisy stitches one inside another.
My own fantasy flower border!
