I’d not thought about the bark experiments until the other day when I was leafing through my sketchbook and decided to post about them.
Then on Saturday I went to Brigg Farmers’ Market to do some of my Christmas shopping as well as my usual monthly meat shop and I noticed that planted at various points throughout the market place were birch trees. With nicely peeling bark.
OK, how do I get some of this without looking a) weird and b) like I’m vandalising the trees? The good old putting down my bags as if I was going to tie my laces trick. I ended up with lovely length of bark that had already almost completely come away from the trunk.
It’s lovely on this side but inside is even nicer.
I think it’ll need a bit of careful handling to get it flat and then I’ll probably attach it to some calico for strength.
I’m thinking a runic inscription in simple straight stitches. At some point, when some of my other projects are cleared.
