I really enjoyed working on the sashiko panel. The rhythmic simplicity of the stitching made a lovely change from the very fine detail work I usually do and I’m very pleased with the finished piece.
I find the way the tessellating shapes fit together fascinating.
I’m not sure yet but I think at some point it may become a cushion panel or bag front for my Japanophile daughter.
Now I’ve had a go at the technique I have a ready-made bag (from a kit) to embroider in a slightly more complex pattern as a Christmas present for a friend.
