Last Saturday we had a beading workshop at the Embroiderers’ Guild, learning how to make tasseled beads from a brick stitch rectangle.
This is actually my second attempt with some frosted aurora borealis delicas. It really shows up the variety of actual sizes and shapes in what appears to be a pot of same size beads.
Getting the hang of the stitching to keep the beads in the right orientation for the stitch was an interesting challenge at first but once it clicked I really enjoyed it.
Once the rectangle has been stitched you thread long strings of beads hanging from each of the bottom beads of the last row of the rectangle, roll it into a cylinder and ladder stitch the sides up.
The bead I made in the workshop with the second bead half completed and a pair of embroidery scissors to show the scale.
The completed second bead with bugles and seed beads used for the tassel and slightly larger beads for the ‘dangle’ at the ends of each strand.
Both completed beads.
Lovely to do something which was a relatively quick finish and very satisfying to learn a new technique.
That looks like great fun, and a really effective technique!
That looks very neat & I’ve been catching up with your beautiful hanging, such a lot of work! Just lovely. Yes i believe in the process, too – one day when I ‘retire’ i might be allowed to enjoy it more without the scary edge!
och, what fabulous colors! I have never had any success with the peyote (or beading in general). Envy that you have access to the EG, too, I daydream about being in the UK just to visit them or do a class…
Beautiful, beautiful work.
